Pasadena Holiday Show

posted Dec 10, 2011 9:14 PM by Elizabeth Hall   [ updated Dec 17, 2011 10:28 PM ]

Stop
So, here are a few kind words to anyone who may still have an idea of finding me at the Pasadena Holiday Show.

At 4pm today 10th December, I along with most other exhibitors bailed from this show, which we all suspect to have been a scam perpetrated on us and the general public.

Some of you who came to the Harvest Festival in Pomona indicated that you may like to come this Pasadena event. I am remaining in Pasadena till early Monday morning. I thought I may do some walking around, and possibly go to the Norton Simon art museum and the Asian Art museum. Then I'm heading back up the coast to relax in Paso Robles for a couple of days. I'll be back home, Thursday 15th December. A number of you had requests, and I can attend to them then, or talk to you on the phone or via email if you like.

Other than that, Have a fab festive season. Thank you all for coming to my shows. I already have a couple of things confirmed for next year: I'll be at Fort Mason with the Contemporary Crafts Market in March, and I'l be doing most of the same shows that I did this year. All the details will be here.

There is a sweet lady whose information I have lost. I am doing some work for you, and you are a pediatrician, and you come every year to Pomona. Please contact me with your information! I am hoping that you will remember and look at my blog, maybe even read this. See I remember a lot about you, but not your name! And I forgot to take YOUR information off of your cheque, before I paid it in, last week!!!!

November 25th to 27th Fri & Sat 10-6, Sun 10-5

This is my home town show. It's always the same routine, getting up early on Thanksgiving morning to set things up, usually with help from some of 'los bratos' who have congregated at home. Here I'm flanked by Charles and Camilla, the two middle children.

November 11th to 13th Fri, Sat & Sun 10-5

Here I am in gloomy old Fountain Hills. I mean weather-wise. The fountain IS quite jolly, though. They put red in it for Veterans' Day. 11/11/11. Lots of good o' soldiers here, in the Hills. One chap was all decked out and his wife was in her uniform too. I couldn't take a picture in time. Sorry. I remember in good ol' Angleterre, we wore poppies. I always bought one, and put it on. There were people with poppies here, but I couldn't see where to buy one. War makes me sad. It truly does. Such a waste, and yet the only way we seem to be able to do some things. I'm keeping my fingers crossed with the Iran/Israel thing. I listened to the Israeli Amos OZ who has just written a connected book of short stories Scenes from Village Life set in a fictional Israeli village. He talked interestingly and amusingly on the plight of Israel and the Palestinians. And his short story novella sounds good too. It may soon be Kindle fodder. Love that Kindle thing.

From the same podcast, I learned that Stevie Wonder Jobs was adopted. It's odd, but I dreamed last night that Mr Jobs and Mr Curb Your enthusiasm Larry whats-his-name were one and the same person, and they renamed the iPod 'enthusiasm', and the iPad 'unbridled'.

I have to eat at Denny's this evening. I can't even muster up the moxie to walk across the road to the pizza place. Still I think they have some grilled fish at Denny's. Salad would be good. I had some very good salmon chowder at the show. And the Kiwanis offered up a free brekkie to the 'vendors'. I don't think of myself as a 'vendor', but I suppose they could be forgiven, There is a lot of buy and sell at this show, now. Not too much in my row, but still.

Booth A14, by the way.

En Route from Sacramento to Fountain Hills AZ

I'm in a bit of a pout with working, at the moment, and the 'pore' ol' fingers' hurt like billie-oh. So, I stopped of in Palm Springs, old Hollywood Jewel of the CA desert, for a bit of a rest.

I hiked in Indian Canyons. There were more people there than I anticipated, but I used my hiking poles, as I'm an old bag now, and somewhat afraid of the rocks. It's the going of the downhill that does the old bones in. But it was still fun. The trading post had some rather cross tribal rangers. They had shaved heads and long plaits down their backs. Fetching in their grumpiness.

One of the really super things about Palm Springs is the little museum. It really is fab, and I could take non flash pictures. There is a lot of money here. Gay men really do have a lot to fling about. Once the lesbians have bought their bikes, there really isn't so much left over for art!!! There was just a 'gay pride' here, and there were still lots of strutting men with pouting lips. Truly, the 'real housewives' ought to watch themselves, the gay men are taking all the botox reserves.

Anyway, the museum.... It has such a variety of stuff in a small space. Since I was here last, they have renovated. A lot of stuff has gone to the sculpture gardens. which is really nice. And they seem to have a lot of new stuff, or it seems new, as it is re-arranged. I highly recommend it, if you ever get the chance.

Avoid the Sand Dabs at the CA Bistro, on Palm Canyon Drive, by the way. The only Sand Dabs to eat are at the Grill on Ocean Ave in Carmel, CA. Nobody else can do them, and the CA bistro murders them dry and then soaks them in a rather revolting glop, which you make into lemon sauce with the lemon on the side.

The Las Brisas Geriatric Home, otherwise known as the Best Western, Palm Springs, makes an excellent breakfast as part of its room fee. The 'help', may not be putting nasty bodily things in a chocolate tart, but it 'sure as shootin', will give you the 'ojo' evil-o if you don't give a good 'tipp-io'. And the front desk exhorts you 'not to jump on the beds'.

If you dare to walk along the canyon roads after dark, bring a strong torch, or you will lose your life on the invisible curbs, or in the painful 'decorative cactus gardens'. Mind you, not many people walk in town. I saw a taxi take this pair of old farts from a bar to the right of the CA bistro, to a bar just to the left of the CA bistro. Hmmmm.

I'm going to watch a bit of REVENGE, a lovely piece of ABC rubbish tellie drama. Yum, yum. Then, it's off to try another geriatric home cocktail, after jumping on my bed, and then, on to THAI SMILE, which is supposed to be quite good.

Bye....

PS Thai Smile is pretty good. The screaming duck is excellent, and I trust the wine

Tellie Magazines and a New Truck

posted May 10, 2011 8:19 PM by Elizabeth Hall   [ updated May 10, 2011 8:27 PM ]

I have been beading along to some really wonderful tellie series. Love NURSE JACKIE. Love, THE GOOD WIFE and hardly dare go to sleep after OZ. I’m listening to TO THE END OF THE LAND, by an Israeli author, in my studio. It’s well written, and irritating at the same time. In my truck, I’ve just started Steve Martin’s AN OBJECT OF BEAUTY. I’m trying to mix the ECONOMIST and FOREIGN AFFAIRS in wi VOGUE, ELLE, GLAMOUR, MARIE CLAIRE et al. I fear the magazines may be winning. MORE magazine may well be banned. I am sick of reading about heroic 90 year olds trotting around the world and engaging in uplifting acts, whilst this 55 year old gets creakier and more mean minded by the minute. Oh, I bought a new truck!!!!! Thank goddess for APPLE STOCK. All those iPods and iPhones paid for a nice Toytota Tundra, which I love, love, love……
